Deer Isle restaurant makes Food & Wine top 10 list

Aragosta, a Deer Isle restaurant, has been named by Food & Wine magazine as one of the top 10 U.S. hotels for food and drink.

The magazine praised Chef Devin Finigan for taking “full advantage of the region’s bounty,” and noted the restaurant’s out-of-the-way location in relation to the tourist beacon of Bar Harbor.

It’s not the first time the eatery in Deer Isle’s Goose Cove has been highlighted by Food & Wine. In 2024, the magazine ranked Aragosta — the Italian word for “lobster” —  number 2 on its list of top 20 restaurants in the country.

“Seclusion” was among several recurring criteria in the winners, according to Food & Wine. The top restaurants were also noted to have a strong sense of place, menus built around local seasonal ingredients and not too much glitz.

“Spring halibut may be served in a ‘tidal broth,’ a savory lobster stock with dashi; while lobster (served spring through fall) could get the beurre blanc treatment,” Food & Wine wrote. “Duck could come alongside a mole sauce.”

The magazine noted the nine cottages on site “to save you the trouble of leaving with any rush. And with views like these, why would you?”
