Summary of the Sugarloaf Mountain Skiing Fatality

Kendall Willard, a 63-year-old resident of Kingfield, Maine, passed away on Saturday at Sugarloaf Mountain ski resort. The Maine medical examiner's office identified Willard, but is withholding further details until his family has processed the information.

Details of the Accident

According to Carrabassett Valley Police Chief Mark Lopez, Willard dropped something from a chairlift. While attempting to retrieve it, he ended up on an icy, closed trail. He subsequently slipped and fell into trees, resulting in his death.

While the exact circumstances are not completely clear, it appears that a combination of retrieving a dropped item and traversing a closed trail contributed to the accident.
