Norbert Ricking, a 59-year-old teacher and former priest, has been unanimously selected by the SPD (Social Democratic Party) in Kreis Borken, Germany, to run for the position of Landrat (district administrator).
Ricking has served as the SPD faction leader in the Gronau city council for almost ten years, and holds a teaching position at a Gymnasium (secondary school). His platform focuses on making Kreis Borken more future-proof, emphasizing five key areas: environment, education, social issues, health, and mobility. He particularly wants to improve opportunities for young people.
Ricking's vision involves creating free and equitable education, enhancing local healthcare access, and ensuring affordable and efficient mobility. He emphasizes a policy of closeness, listening, and action. His strong emphasis on young people's concerns and ideas is evident in his campaign.
The upcoming local elections are scheduled for September 14th. Ricking's position as the top candidate on the SPD's Kreistag (district council) reserve list virtually guarantees his place in the new council.
